WAY OF THE UNFAITHFUL

A REVIEW OF THE BOOK, “WAY OF THE UNFAITHFUL”

The Author:

Sinmisola Ogúnyinka

The Title:

The scriptures in Psalms 35:6a says: “Let their way be dark and slippery” and Psalms 1:6 says: “For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.”  Hence, the title “Way of the Unfaithful” in my opinion derives from the series of events that happened in the lives of the main characters – Kokei, Isalo and Elder Ikpi, and the resultant effect of their actions – which is the end, expected of whoever lives in such ways and a perfect expression of the writer’s message.

The Book:

“Way of the Unfaithful” is an amazing story of how life-happened to two teenaged-girls, the decisions and actions they took, to make lemonade out of the lemon life had unfairly served them and the consequences that followed.

Sinmi, in this novel, has again been able to subtly show the reward of impatience, waywardness, infidelity and lack of contentment.

I dare say that whoever reads this one-hundred and sixty-five paged, suspense-packed novel, is sure to glean some of the most vital lessons life teaches, regardless of their backgrounds, educational or social status, religious or political affiliations.

Sinmi was able to clearly convey her thoughts cum intentions in the most professional manner yet in a language simple enough for everyone to comprehend. The writing style is so unique and so effective in making the message clear, enough to be understood by the simplest of minds.

“Way of the Unfaithful” is such a powerful book and it will, most definitely, keep its readers craving for more – maybe, a part 2, at the least. This was my experience, despite the fact that this, in itself, is a complete story, yet I’m craving for more.

The Location:

I spent nine (9) years in Calabar, during which period I travelled on several occasions through Ugep, I visited Ugep a couple of times for events, I had Ugep indigenes as friends and even dated an Ugep lady. Hence, the locations mentioned in this novel and how the novel is perfectly interspersed with Yakurr native names, greetings and exclamations, knowing they are real and peculiar to the Ugep people, simply show that Sinmi did an extensive research, which further attests to the fact that Sinmi is an author who knows what she is doing.

Conclusion:

“Way of the Unfaithful” is a job well done. I am sure, it would one-day, very soon; join the league of books that have been made into movies – I personally look forward to it.

I love this novel so much! On a scale of 1-5, I rate this novel “5” and I am going to read it over and over, and I will ensure, every member of my household reads it (as well as other books by this wonderful author – Sinmisola Ogúnyinka).

Recommendation:

“Way of the Unfaithful” is a ‘must-read’. I strongly recommend it for everyone!
